Yawn yourself into Bliss
Be honest. You have been judgmental or even took it personally when somebody yawned in your presence. Is my sharing really that boring? This person doesn’t have the decency to yawn without even trying to hide it! AM I really that boring?!
Let me tell you: yawning isn’t an expression of bad manners, boredom or tiredness. At least not just.
If you don’t need to read about the science and treasure trove of yawning, because you are already aware of the goodness of it, then stop reading here and just open your mouth, close your eyes, tilt your head slightly back and YAWWWNNNN unrestrictedly. And one more: opening the mouth wider, closing the eyes, tilting the head, yawwwnnn.
Yes. You can and should induce yawning.
And maybe even feel a little proud if the person next to you joins in: it is a response of empathy and just shows how contagious goodness can be.
Why our whole system benefits of Yawning
If you kept reading because you need to know all the facts to be convinced to yawn passionately, unrestrictedly and openly, it’s necessary to mention that scientist actually don’t really know the exact purpose of yawning. What they do know though are the many incredible benefits for your wellbeing and the body’s natural functioning. Such good benefits, that you want to consider inducing it several times daily.
I like to describe yawning as a natural breathing reflex.
It can be induced but happens mostly involuntarily, like a reflex. The yawn itself expands the entire airway of nose, mouth and throat to take long, deep breaths. One might say that this is an indicator that yawning increases the intake of oxygen, decreases the carbon dioxide levels in the body, reduces stress and anxiety, harmonizes the nervous system.
On top of that yawning moisturises the eyes naturally, stretches so many muscles in your face (face yoga hype tick) and stimulates to help your brain focusing. Sounds like an overall body-mind-soul bliss, doesn’t it?
I suggest my clients to create daily yawning rituals, because why wouldn’t you want to yawn yourself into bliss?
